Back in September, Danny Sanchez over at Journaslistopia compiled a list of nearly two dozen newspaper crime-mapping efforts.

The Google Maps Mania blog keeps a running list of crime and sexual offender-related Google maps. At last check, they were up to nearly 50 sites.

A list of crime related mashups is also available at programmable web.

Data Warehouse projects have also figured out a place for Crime related data.

The Roanoke Times DataSphere has a section devoted to public safety with the promise of more to come.

Depending on the site, Gannett’s DateUniverse project offers a variety of crime related databases. One example can be found at the Asbury Park Press site.

A non-map approach worth noting involves blogging.

The Los Angeles Police Department has an official blog where they highlight crimes and write about community initiatives.

England’s Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt, blogs about his beat as Life of Crime.

Meanwhile Rochelle E.B. Gilken and Kevin Deutsch crime reporters at the Palm Beach Post blog about their beat at Behind the Yellow Tape.

I know that this is far from a comprehensive list and that given all the experimentation that is going on in the industry there just has to be other examples of new and/or different approaches to crime reporting. Know of any? Let me know and I’ll add it to this list.
