As many of you might have read today, the company I work for, Ottaway, is “in play”. What that means for myself or the rest of the employees I don’t think anyone knows for sure. So, sorry if I can’t offer any insight or guidance.
What I can tell you is that this is a fast-changing industry. Newspapers need to continuously keep an eye to the future and focusing too much on the present; in this case, what will happen to the company is a dangerous thing. It doesn’t take long for market-share to be lost to the next great idea or for your competition to suddenly get their act together and lap you online.
So other than this post, I’m planning on continuing to focus on the issues and ideas that we, as an industry, must deal with to survive and thrive. There is a lot of potential out there and for the newspapers that are willing to take some chances, I believe there are great rewards as well.
